Subho received his undergraduate degree from Bangalore University and M.S. in Biochemistry from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), India.  He then completed his Ph.D. from the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth in 2010, where he characterized the functions of a novel gene MIEN1 in tumor progression and metastasis. He joined the laboratory of Dr. Bert W. O'Malley at Baylor College of Medicine for his postdoctoral fellowship. He used various genetic and molecular biology approaches along with metabolomics and proteomics strategies to understand the functions of transcriptional coregulators in tumor cell adaptation, survival and distant organ metastasis. In 2017, Subho joined the faculty of Roswell Park as an Assistant Professor. He is a recipient of US Department of Defense (DoD)- Predoctoral fellowship, Susan G. Komen Postdoctoral Award, US Department of Defense (DoD)- Idea Development Award, the NCI Transition Career Development Award, Susan G. Komen Career Catalyst Research Award, Outstanding Early Investigator Award from Endocrine Society, and NIH Director's New Innovator Award.

Postdoctoral Fellows

Xiaochen (Hillson) Yu

PhD, Fudan University, China.

Hillson received his PhD from Fudan University. During his PhD project, his thesis is focused on molecular mechanism of cell metabolic alteration in response to metabolic stress. He is interested in exploring the interplay between epigenetics and metabolism in cancer cell. Outside the lab, he is passionate about music and enjoys cooking and making coffee.

Anasuya Das Gupta

PhD, University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign .

Anasuya received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. Her thesis was focused on studying the regulation of extracellular vesicle secretion by cholesterol metabolites in myeloid immune cells. She has a Master’s degree in biotechnology engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India. Her current research involves understanding the immune metabolic profile in TNBC and its involvement in resistance to immunotherapy, with the goal of developing new targets to augment immunotherapy. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying out new recipes, and going for group fitness classes (yoga, pilates and strength training).

Graduate Students

Christian Prechtl (MD-PhD Program, University at Buffalo)

BS, Case Western Reserve University, OH.

Christian is a MD-PhD candidate at University at Buffalo, and a Buffalonian born and raised. He has a deep interest in cellular metabolism and its molecular underpinnings. Outside of academic endeavors, Christian enjoys golf, playing music, vanilla Coke, and the occasional Moscow Mule and claims he is rated 5 stars by his mother.

Alphonse Dimeck (PhD student, Tumor Immunology)

BS, State University of New York at Buffalo, NY.

Alphonse completed his undergraduate degree in Biotechnology from State University of New York at Buffalo in 2022, and he joined the Tumor Immunology PhD Program at Roswell Park later that fall. In the Dasgupta Lab, he is interested in studying the tumor immune microenvironment of cancer and understanding how the unique aspects of cancer microenvironment drive the tumors response and growth. Outside of the lab, Alphonse enjoys listening to and playing music, hanging out with friends and anything involving Star Wars (movies, books, TV shows and especially the music).

Research Intern

Nadya Elhalawany

BS in Biological Sciences, State University of New York at Buffalo, NY.

Nadya completed Bachelor's degree in biological sciences at UB. She joined the lab in 2018 as a high-school student, and has been focusing on cellular metabolism and epigenetics. Outside of the lab she enjoys going to the movies with her family and friends, going to community events, and going for walks outside.

Sierra Morton

BS in Pharmacology and Toxicology, State University of New York at Buffalo, NY.

Sierra completed her undergraduate degree in pharmacology and toxicology at the University at Buffalo in 2024.  She joined the Dasgupta lab in 2024 looking to pursue her interest in cancer research, focusing on metabolism and therapeutics. Outside of the lab, Sierra enjoys coffee, spending time with her family, hiking and baking.
